THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REMY HAIR AND NON-REMY HAIR

There are several criteria to differentiate these hair types such as collection, process, properties and price.

REMY HAIR features a unidirectional cuticle direction, which essentially means that the hair follicles all go in one direction. Remy hair is collected in a method where all the hairs are aligned in the natural direction they grow (i.e. ponytailed and cut), top to top and ends at the tips, to maintain the natural cuticle direction and texture.

This eliminates the tangling issues common with non-Remy or low quality hair. Remy hair is only gently processed.

REMY human hair extensions will last 3 to 6 months with regular maintenance.

Due to the method of collection, this type of hair is rare and therefore quite expensive.

There are some hair suppliers that claim to sell unprocessed Remy hair. To some extent, all hair must be processed to ensure that the cuticles are aligned in the same direction.

Some companies claim to sell 100% Remy hair but mix around 10-40% Non-Remy hair into their bundles. A human hair expert can tell the difference between Remy and Non-Remy hair by touching it.

It is said that Remy hair feels cool and silky to the touch. Non-experts may not be able to tell the difference by looking at it. Trust me, after 2 to 3 weeks when that hair starts to fade, they will know it is not Remy.

One sign that you have quality Remy hair is the price. It’s expensive! And it will last a long time if properly maintained.

100% HUMAN HAIR is usually collected from hairbrushes and hair that falls on the floor. It is in larger supply and therefore much cheaper than Remy Hair. The majority of human hair sold today is non-Remy hair.

Due to the method of collection, the cuticle of each hair strand tends to be pulled in all different directions. To compensate for this, the hair will undergo a process sometimes called an “acid bath”, which completely removes the entire cuticle.

This can be equivalent to about ten consecutive relaxations.

After the cuticle removal process, the hair is dipped in silicone to create shine and cover up any cuticles that were not removed in the acid solution. Silicone adds weight to the hair and increases the price as the hair is sold by weight. At first glance, non-Remy hair will appear silky and shiny.

After a few washes, the silicone will start to flake off. The hair will become dull, brittle, and very prone to tangles and mats. This type of hair is not recommended for any long-term hair extensions (like Sew-Ins) for obvious reasons. Non-Remy hair is also commonly used in human hair wigs.
